Ajeet Major General VS Soman Goudar, UYSM, AVSM, VSM

1. Roll No 7 Maj Gen VSS Goudar, UYSM, AVSM, VSM, joined our School on 16 Sep 1963 in the first batch in Class V and was allotted – Hoysala house. At School he excelled in sports and academics and cleared exam to join National Defence Academy. Trained at National Defence Academy from 1971 to 1973, he then proceeded to Indian Military Academy, Dehradun for further training. The General Officer was commissioned on 22 Dec 1974 in Maratha Light Infantry. Has served in various parts of India with his battalion or in headquarters including the remote areas of Andaman & Nicobar, North East, NEFA and Jammu and Kashmir.
2. The General Officer has participated in active operations in Siachen Glacier, the highest battle field in the world and in intense counter terrorist operations in Manipur, Nagaland, Assam and Jammu and Kashmir. As a young major, he was awarded Vishisht Seva Medal for his gallantry in Siachen Glacier, where he was commanding a post at 18,000 feet.
3. He is an aluminous of Defence Services Staff College, Wellington, and also had the privilege of being Officer-In-Charge training at the famous National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla. The General Officer commanded his own Battalion 8 Maratha Light Infantry in Jammu and Kashmir. After commanding the battalion, he was nominated for Long Defence Management Course at College of Defence Management, Secunderabad. He later on served as Deputy Commandant of Maratha Light Infantry Regimental Centre at Belgaum. On promotion to the rank of Brigadier, he commanded an active Brigade in Operations in Rajouri Sector of Jammu and Kashmir. the Officer was hand picked by the then Army Chief, General JJ Singh, as his Military Advisor, the duty which he performed from Aug 2005 to Sep 2007. For his contribution as Military Advisor to the Army Chief, he was awarded Ati Vishisht Seva Medal. The officer was promoted to the rank of Major General in 2008 and was given the command of Rashtriya Rifles Forces, designated for anti terrorist operations in North Kashmir in the terrorist infested districts of Kupwara, Baramulla, Sopore, Bandipur and Srinagar. The Officer carried out his duties with great success bringing down the militancy in the area to the minimal and he was awarded Uttam Yudh Seva Medal. After the command of the division in North Kashmir, the General Officer is posted to Junior Leaders Wing Belgaum.
4. The General Officer has travelled extensively and visited military establishments in United States of America, United Kingdom, Japan, China, Singapore, Indonesia and Australia.
5. General Goudar at present is heading the Infantry School at Belgaum, which trains Platoon Commanders and Commandoes of the Indian Army.
The most distinct quality of this accomplished Ajeet is his abiding love for his alma mater and for the development of the School.
